Manifesto for the North published

Northern mayors and leaders have today published their joint Manifesto for the North.

This document identifies five priority areas where collaboration across the North can deliver the biggest benefits, both for northerners and the UK economy at large.

These are:

• Trade and investment
• Net zero
• Skills and innovation
• People and place
• Transport

The policy priorities under these areas will form the basis of initial pan-northern collaboration between Northern mayors and council leaders in non-mayoral areas, together with northern partner organisations, business, university and civil society leaders.

Northern mayors and leaders are set to discuss how they can work collaboratively to deliver on their shared priorities, building on the Manifesto, at a Summit in York on 4 September.

The Manifesto for the North was shaped through conversations with all of the people, businesses and institutions who attended the 2024 Convention of the North event in West Yorkshire. It was shared with political parties ahead of the General Election.

Lancashire has been announced as the host of the 2025 Convention of the North, with the event due to take place at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston on 27 and 28 February 2025.
